Hon. Afam Ogene, a former lawmaker who represented the Ogbaru Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, has expressed outrage over the area’s devasting flood damage.
The neighborhood has been inundated by flood, according to Ogene, a Labour Party (LP) candidate for the House of Representatives in the 2023 election.
The former legislator urged the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) and National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to step in and save the Ogbaru people from the calamity in a press statement that was made accessible to HotGbedu Media.
“The human and environmental situations here are truly pitiful, and the government must take immediate steps to reduce the suffering of the desperate victims, the majority of whom have lost all of their possessions to the disaster,” he said.
The majority of the victims urgently require food, clothing, bedding, medical supplies, and shelter. “Please, NEMA, SEMA, and the state government, should consider this as a serious and desperate SOS message and treat it with the urgency, humaneness, and responsibility that it requires.
“I also urge the Anambra State Government to coordinate relief efforts to make sure they are distributed prudently and transparently in the best interest of the victims in consultation with the President Generals of Ogbaru communities and the Chairman of the Transition Committee, Hon. Paschal Aniegbuna.”
Ogwu Ikpele, Akili Ogidi, Obeagwe, Ossomala, Umunankwo, Ogbakuba, Ochuche, Akili Ozizor, Atani, Ohita, Odekpe, Amiyi, Iyiowa, Ogbeukwu, Okoti, and several other communities are among the most impacted.
